CEBU CITY – A policeman died in a fun run here before dawn on Sunday, Feb. 5.
The fatality was identified as Patrolman Lee Rodrocks Sardiva Carbonilla, a 31-year-old member of the Regional Mobile Force Battalion-Central Visayas (RMFB-7) and detailed at the Regional Headquarters Support Unit at PC Hills in Barangay Lahug here.
Carbonilla was one of hundreds of runners who participated in the Run 7-Eleven fun run at the South Road Properties.
He joined the 21-kilometer category and was at the Cebu-Cordova Link Expressway when he collapsed around 3:58 a.m., said Councilor Joel Garganera.
Garganera graced the event and led the blowing of the horn to signal the start of the 10-kilometer category.
He said medical responders administered cardiopulmonary resuscitation on the policeman. Carbonilla was taken to the Cebu City Medical Center where he was declared at 4:58 a.m., Garganera said.
“I talked with the race organizer and they’re doing everything to extend assistance to the fallen runner,” said Garganera.
Col. Gerard Ace Pelare, spokesperson of Brig. Gen. Jerry Bearis, chief of the Police Regional Office-Central Visayas, said that according to the attending doctor, the policeman died of acute decompensated heart failure or heart attack.
Col. Ronan Claravall, head of the RMFB 7, said Carbonilla had an active lifestyle and joined several fun runs.
“He was an athletic person. He participated in events like fun runs regularly. He was a Scout Ranger that’s why we knew him to be healthy,” said Claravall.
