Imee to discuss housing for Iloilo fire victims with President

ILOILO CITY – Sen. Imee Marcos over the weekend said she will work to provide housing for more than 300 families displaced by a fire in Barangays San Juan and West Habog-Habog in Molo District here last month.

Sen. Marcos assured that she will personally relay to President Ferdinand “Bongbong” R. Marcos Jr. the need to provide housing for fire victims.

The President’s sister said she will personally submit a copy of the resolution of the Iloilo City Council requesting a relocation site for them.

She told members of the Iloilo City Hall Press Corps that she can tell the President to expedite the processing as his older sister.

“I will also make sure the Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development (DHSUD) will get a copy,” the senator said during the distribution of assistance for them on Saturday, Feb. 4, at the Baluarte Elementary School.

Sen. Marcos said there has to be a long-term plan from the National Housing Authority (NHA) to address the needs of informal settlers. “They don’t want to be far away from their source of living,” she said.

Sen. Marcos lobbied to the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) to give financial aid to the displaced families. She was accompanied by DSWD-6 Director Carmelo Nochete and Iloilo City Vice Mayor Jeffrey Ganzon and Councilor Rudolph Ganzon during the turnover of aid.
