Cops serve search warrant on QC school bomb scare

The Quezon City Police District (QCPD) announced on Saturday, Feb. 4, that its personnel served a search warrant in a house were they located the phone allegedly used by the suspect in the bomb scare in an elementary school in Barangay Culiat, Quezon City last Jan. 23.

Police said the operation was held in the house in Barangay Pasong Tamo, QC at around 9:30 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 3 by virtue of a warrant to search, seize, and examine computer data (WSSECD) for violation of Presidential Decree No. 1727 (Declaring as Unlawful the Malicious Dissemination of False Information or the Willful Making of Any Threat Concerning Bombs, Explosives or Any Similar Device or Means of Destruction and Imposing Penalties Therefor) issued by Quezon City Regional Trial Court Branch 101 Presiding Judge Evangeline C Castillo-Marigomen on Friday.

Classes in New Era Elementary School were suspended on Jan. 23, after a teacher received a message on Messenger from the one Ramon Demundo, saying that a bomb was planted inside the school.

Responding QCPD operatives did not find any explosives in the school following thorough inspection and later declared that the area is safe.

Police said that the search warrant was in relation to Republic Act 10175 or the “Cybercrime Prevention Act of 2012.”

Authorities recovered several cellphones, a Globe Tatoo mobile Wifi, a Mercurys 1200 Wifi Router, and an iPad Air during the search which were then brought to the office of Quezon City District Anti-Cybercrime Team (QCDACT) for examination.

“We ensure the public that we will go after those who spread false information about bomb threats dahil sa ito ay hindi magandang biro (because it is not a good joke). Ang mga paaralan ay dapat na maging ligtas para sa ating mga mag-aaral (Schools must be safe for our students),” QCPD Director Brig. Gen. Nicolas Torre III said.
