The Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) has stepped up its tax campaign drive in a bid to raise P2.6 trillion this year.
President Ferdinand R. Marcos, Jr. will lead top government officials, business leaders and officers of various professional groups in launching the collection drive at the Philippine International Convention Center in Pasay City on Monday, Feb. 6.
BIR Commissioner Romeo D. Lumagui, Jr. said they raised the tax collection target by over P500 billion compared to 2022 target of P2.1 trillion.
The BIR, however, is yet to release data as to its collection last year.
Lumagui said they expect that their programs would help achieve their target-- the full digitalization of the bureau's administration and operation machineries and strict enforcement of tax laws and regulations through systematic review and investigation of tax returns.
Other revenue officials explained that the BIR generates annually almost all it's take from voluntary compliance, and roughly only three percent from investigation.
But they said investigation plays a crucial role in enhancing voluntary compliance.
