LUPAO, Nueva Ecija – Police said on Saturday, Feb. 4, that the killing of the barangay captain of San Isidro here is solved after one of the four gunmen was arrested on Saturday, Jan. 28, in a pursuit operation.
Col. Richard Caballero, acting Nueva Ecija police chief, identified the suspect by his alias “Amboy.”
Caballero said Amboy was initially arrested for violation of Republic Act 10591 (the Comprehensive Law on Firearms and Ammunition). Seized from him were a caliber .38 Smith and Wesson revolver and a motorcycle.
Police later found out that the motorcycle was used in the murder of Barangay Captain Reginald Espiritu on Tuesday, Jan. 24, and on Monday, Jan. 30, Amboy executed extra-judicial confession in which he admitted that he was the one of the four men responsible for killing Espiritu.
Amboy positively identified his three cohorts as alias “Macky,” “Ruel,” and “Padogs.”
However, Macky was killed in a shootout with police after he allegedly stole a motorcycle in Sitio Pinagcuartelan, Barangay Santo Niño 1st, San Jose City, Nueva Ecija on Jan. 30.
Police said Macky was spotted riding the motorcycle in Barangay Santo Niño 3rd but instead of surrendering, he fired at lawmen who retaliated and killed him.
Recovered from Macky were a caliber .357 Smith and Wesson revolver with live ammunition, a black sling bag, and the motorcycle.
A criminal complaint for murder has been filed against the suspects.
