PH envoy in The Hague upholds country's involvement in int'l rule of law — Manalo

Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) Secretary Enrique Manalo on Saturday noted Philippine Ambassador to The Hague J. Eduardo Malaya’s appointment as president of the governing body of the Permanent Court of Arbitration (PCA).

In a Twitter post, Manalo said Malaya’s presidency of PCA’s Administrative Council for the year 2023-2024 continues the Philippine “tradition of active involvement in upholding the rule of law in international relations.”

The country’s top diplomat made the remark as Malaya and other diplomats from the Philippine embassy met with PCA Secretary General Marcin Czepelak at the Peace Palace to discuss the body’s action plan for the next two years.

The discussion offered a “lot of food for thoughts,” according to the PCA.

“I wish Amb. Malaya and the Council all the best as they work on further fortifying the PCA,” Manalo said.

In December 2022, Malaya was elected as the head of the council that is composed of representatives from 122 member states.

During his remark, Malaya said the “PCA represents our great ideals of achieving justice and peace through law.”
