The Parañaque local government celebrated on Saturday, Feb. 4, the 78th anniversary of the city’s liberation from Japanese occupation during World War II.
Paranaque 1st District Rep. Edwin Olivarez and his brother, Mayor Eric Olivarez, were joined by 16th Parañaque Veterans District President Ismael Allanigue, city veterans, veterans' widows and children in the commemoration of the liberation held at the Parañaque Veterans Monument in Barangay San Dionisio.
The congressman thanked the farmers and fishermen who had joined the guerilla forces in the fight against foreign invaders.
Olivarez, however, said the fight of the Filipinos against Covid-19 is now over yet.
He said that the Covid-19 pandemic badly affected the economy, and many Filipinos lost their jobs.
The congressman said the city under the leadership of his brother, Mayor Eric, is now focusing on economic recovery.
