CEBU CITY – Thirty-four houses were razed while four others were damaged in a fire that hit Barangay Basak, Lapu-Lapu City, Cebu before dawn on Saturday, Feb. 4.

Four residents trying to save belongings from their burning houses sustained minor injuries.
The Lapu-Lapu City Social Welfare and Development Office said the fire displaced 37 families composed of 122 individuals.
The fire started around 3 a.m. and was contained about an hour later, said Jeffrey Gerodias of the Lapu-Lapu City Fire Station.
Damage to property was placed at P375,000. The cause of fire was not immediately known.
The City Social Welfare and Development Office and the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office have distributed food and non-food items to fire victims.
The city has sent modular tents to the Barangay Basak Gymnasium where the displaced families are temporarily sheltered.
