Sunshine Cruz reveals 'trust' issues caused breakup with Macky Mathay

Months after continued speculations, Sunshine Cruz finally opened up about her split with her partner of five years, San Juan City councilor Macky Mathay.

On a recent episode of Boy Abunda's show, the sexy actress shared the reason why she kept silent about it for the longest time.

"I chose to be quiet because merong mga bata na involved – mga anak niya na napamahal sa akin and ‘yung mga anak ko na napamahal kay Macky. So, nag-decide ako na maging quiet na lang, kasi hindi naman talaga alam ng publiko kung ano ‘yung pinagdadaanan namin or kung ano yung pinagdaanan ko,” she answered.

Sunshine shared realizations she learned not only with her relationship with Macky but wit ex-husband Cesar Montano as well.

“Ang na-realize ko lang dito sa relationship (with Macky), and even with my ex-husband, Cesar (Montano), tatlo ang importanteng bagay sa relationship. Hindi lang love, dapat nandun ang trust, nandun ang respect. ‘Pag merong isang nawala dun, it's not going to work. And sa edad kong ito, I am 45 years old, hindi na dapat pinapatagal.”

She continued: “Of course, you give your second chance, third chance, hanggang 10 pa nga na beses magbibigay ka, eh. Pero at the end of the day, you wake up one day at mari-realize mo na wala nang patutunguhan ang relationship. And you just have to be thankful for the years you've been together. Naging maganda ‘yung pagsasama niyo, nagmahalan kayo, naging inspiration kayo sa isa't-isa."

Asked if there's a third-party involved, she replied: “Parang wala ako sa posisyon na magsalita tungkol d’yan.”

On the other hand, Sunshine maintained that all that matter to her now is that she's "blessed" with work, and being with her kids.

“After Cesar, I waited. Actually dumating na lang ‘yan, hindi ko naman inaasahan. Almost four years after, separated ako kay Cesar, nung dumating si Macky. I wanted to grow old with him as well. Pero may mga… kahit magplano tayo sa buhay natin, pero kung hindi talaga yun ang destiny natin, hindi mangyayari.”

Recall that news about Sunshine and Macky parting ways started circulating around the time of their supposed sixth anniversary as a couple.

It started after many netizens noticed that the two are no longer following each other on their respective Instagram accounts.

Adding fuel to the fire were Sunshine’s seemingly cryptic posts.

Meanwhile, prior to the release of the latter's interview, Sunshine reiterated to actress Ara Mina that she will always be her "sister."

Note that Ara is Macky's half-brother.
