The Quezon City local government distributed cash assistance and tablets to public school students in the city on Thursday, Feb. 2.
Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte and QC Social Services Development Department (SSDD) officer-in-charge Rowena Macatao led the distribution of P3,000 cash aid to each student at Risen Garden, Quezon City Hall on Thursday.
The cash distribution is under the SSDD’s annual program called Community Outreach Division Educational Assistance for Disadvantaged Children and Youth, which aims to help children cope with their education expenses, such as school supplies and uniforms.
QC SSDD said the program targets to provide cash assistance to 500 to 1,500 public school students.
Students from Grade 4 to Grade 10 enrolled in public schools may apply for the program by submitting the required documents online, which will undergo thorough verification, according to SSDD.
It said that the program also prioritizes child laborers and victims of physical and sexual abuse, in pursuance to Republic Act 9344 or the Juvenile Justice and Welfare Act (JJWA).
Meanwhile, the local government has also started distributing 200 Samsung Galaxy tablets to students in Grades 1, 2 and 3 at Apolonio Samson Elementary School (ASES) in Balintawak, Quezon City on Thursday.
There were 66 tablets already distributed to Grade 1 students. The tablets for Grades 2 and 3 are also set to be distributed in the next few days.
The local government said 309,054 tablets have been distributed to students in the city since 2020.
