Pasig LGU visits Carmona, Cavite to study PWD projects, inititiatives

The Pasig City local government visited Carmona, Cavite on Thursday, Feb. 2, to study the town's projects and efforts for its persons with disability (PWD) residents.

The city government said that the benchmarking visit's main goal is to learn and adopt the town's good practices in conducting its programs, projects, and activities for PWDs and children with special needs.

The city's delegation was composed of officials from the Office of the City Mayor, Special Children Educational Institute, and Barangay San Antonio.

"Sa pangunguna ni Mayor Dahlia Loyola, nagkaroon ng presentasyon ukol sa mga programa at serbisyo ng Lokal na Pamahalaan ng Carmona para sa PWDs tulad ng Comprehensive Approach Responsive Education and Rehabilitation at Community-Based Inclusive Development (Led by Carmona, Cavite Mayor Dahlia Loyola, a presentation about the programs and services of the local government of Carmona to its PWDs such as the Comprehensive Approach Responsive Education and Rehabilitation and the Community-Based Inclusive Development, was shown to the delegates from Pasig City)," the city government said.

Aside from the said presentation, the Pasig delegation also visited the different facilities of Carmona for its PWDs such as the BML SPED Center and Training and Development Center.

"Ang mga natutunan ng delegasyon ng Pasig City mula sa benchmarking study na ito ay gagamitin bilang inputs parang mas mapalawig at mas mapalakas ang implementasyon ng mga programa at proyekto para sa sektor ng PWD (The things the delegation learned and experienced from the benchmarking study will be used as inputs to further improve and widen the implementation of the city's programs and projects for the PWD sector)," the city government explained.

In September of last year, a total of 70 senior citizens and PWDs were recognized after successfully finishing their 11-day recycling and weaving activities under Pasig City’s SiPAG-ASA project.

SiPAG-ASA is a local government unit (LGU)-funded project under the Tulong Panghanapbuhay sa Ating Disadvantaged/Displaced Workers (TUPAD) program which opens livelihood opportunities for senior citizens and PWDs through skills training and learning.

During the ceremony, Pasig City Mayor Vico Sotto said that many senior citizens and PWDs expressed their interest and willingness to work in order to sustain their daily living and support their families. However, they could not join the previous TUPAD programs that were offered such as sweeping and maintaining the city’s streets and thoroughfares because the activities were too strenuous.

Hence, the city’s Public Employment Service Office (PESO) and Livelihood Office devised a project that was accessible and equally beneficial to seniors and PWDs, as well as environmentally friendly.
