Here's why Almario thinks Gatchalian could become 'the best DSWD secretary ever'

This early, Davao Oriental 2nd district Rep. Cheeno Almario believes that his erstwhile colleague Rex Gatchalian could become "the best secretary DSWD has ever had".

Almario, in a statement Thursday, Feb. 2, said the appointment of Gatchalian as Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) secretary by Malacañang didn't surprise him.

“As the primary agency that implements the social protection programs of the government, it is crucial that the DSWD chief knows the pulse of the Filipinos. Secretary Gatchalian has the distinct experience and caliber of an excellent leader to realize the social agenda of this government," he said.

"Having been a local chief executive (Valenzuela City mayor), he knows the realities on the ground down to the purok levels. As congressman, he is well-versed in policymaking," noted the Mindanaoan.

"Both backgrounds may make Mayor Congressman Secretary Rex the best secretary DSWD has ever had," Almario said.
