A total of 8,914 daycare students will receive nutribun (nutritious bun) in Valenzuela City starting Friday, Feb. 3, the local government said.
Valenzuela City Mayor Weslie "Wes" Gatchalian along with City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO) led the launch and distribution of food packs containing the city's "enhanced nutribun" to 217 daycare students at Dalandanan Multi-Purpose Center, Valenzuela City on Friday.
According to Gatchalian, the event serves as a formal relaunching of the feeding program as it was temporarily halted during the peak of the pandemic.
He said that there will be food patrollers who will deliver nutribun in all 90 daycare centers in the city.
"Dito po sa Valenzuela ay sinusuportahan namin ang importansya ng mga mag-aaral simula sa child development centers hanggang sa kanilang pagtatapos sa kolehiyo (Here in Valenzuela we support the importance child health from child development centers until they graduate from college)," CSWDO head Dorothy Go-Evangelista said.
She said the nutribun aims to be a ready-to-eat meal and that it has three variants of carrot, squash, and sweet potato flavors.
Evangelista said the supplemental feeding program is part city's award-winning campaign called Education 360 Investment Program, which aims to uplift the quality of education in the city.
In line with the event, a height-weight check-up and parent-nutrition education session were also conducted to educate students' guardians about proper food nutrition.
