CEBU CITY -- A barangay captain and three others were arrested as police raided an illegal cockfight locally known as ‘tigbakay’ in Catmon town, northern Cebu.
Marlon Rule, 47, barangay captain of Panalipan, Catmon, was among those caught when operatives of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group-Central Visayas (CDIG-7) raided the ‘tigbakay’ on Thursday, Feb. 2.
Also arrested were Steven Olingay, 37, of Barangay Panangatan, Sogod town; Dennis Cabahug, 42, of Barangay Bawo, Sogod; and Francis Geonzon, 38, of Barangay Flores, Catmon.
According to Maj. Nazarino Emia, chief of the provincial unit of CIDG-7, the operations stemmed from numerous reports that Rule was allegedly organizing illegal cockfights in his barangay.
Emia said several persons were in the area when police arrived but the raiding team was only able to corner the village chief and the three other persons.
Seized during the raid were P7,950 cash and two gamefowls.
Police said appropriate charges were filed against the arrested persons.
