Vice Ganda reacts to teacher's viral open letter for him

Published Feb 27, 2023 02:45 pm

A teacher schooled Vice Ganda via an open letter, recently.

It was triggered by a skit that aired as part of "It's Showtime."

On Twitter, the ABS-CBN star reiterated that what he said about issuing an "ordinance" banning teachers from asking students who do not raise their hands was done in character, with him parodying a bad politician as Yormeme.

Isa syang maling tao.

But what did the teacher told Vice exactly.

Here it is.

"An open letter to Vice Ganda:

"Before you preach, research.

"You might have felt vindicated based on the way you justified your argument on this issue about calling students who are not raising their hands during class recitation. Let me tell you this.

"Teachers have learned different teaching strategies to maximize students’ engagement in their own classrooms. We may have learned them from spending four years in tertiary level, graduate school, own research, or even from our exposure to different teaching experiences. But no matter how we learned these techniques, we studied, researched, and immersed ourselves to efficiently deliver our lessons to our students.

"Calling students who are not raising their hands is never wrong and never will be. Let me tell you Vice, there is a technique called 'Cold Calling'. This was developed by Doug Lemov and can be found in his book 'Teach Like A Champion'. This effective strategy creates an expectation that all students are ready to answer every question. Guess what? This has been proven to promote attention, engagement, and participation. We strive to encourage active thinking in our classrooms. And it was never made to shame students. Never. We hold students accountable which I think is crucial in developing their responsibility for their own learning.

"Never invalidate others’ actions (this time- teachers’) unless otherwise you have made thorough research. Actually, pwede ka rin maging guro, you have a huge social media following. Use it wisely. Wag lang kuda ng kuda. Ika nga, before you preach, research!

"Yung lang.

"Nagmamahal,

As to what exactly it was that Vice as Yormeme said then, well, here's a transcription.
