Gabriela lauds Alex Eala for US Open girls' singles victory; 'Herstory is made again'–

Gabriela Women's Partylist has offered its congratulations to Filipino tennis phenom Alex Eala for winning the US Open Girls' Singles title.

"This is yet another proof that Filipino women are capable of blazing trail(s) for the country in global sports events, and further testament of our strength despite prevailing macho-feudal notions," Gabriela said in a statement on Sunday, Sept. 11.

The 17-year-old Eala dominated the US Open Girls' Singles held in Queens Borough, New York City on Saturday, Sept. 10.

"We will continue to push for greater state funding for the development of Philippine sports and for the support for Filipino athletes, especially Filipino women athletes," it concluded.
