A special team formed by the Pasay City Police is hunting down the two motorcycle-riding gunmen who shot and seriously wounded Mayor Ohto Montawal of Datu Montawal, Maguindanao del Sur last Wednesday night.
Pasay City police chief Col. Froilan Uy immediately created the special investigation team for the immediate arrest of the suspects, according to Capt. Ryan Marcelo, city police spokesperson.
Marcelo said Uy also ordered the deployment of policemen at a hospital in Muntinlupa City to secure Montawal who is now in stable condition.
The city police chief said the special investigation team obtained a closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage showing two men on a motorcycle tailing the vehicle of the mayor in Barangay 3, Pasay City.
Uy said the team also reviewed the CCTV footage taken from Manila up to the service road of Roxas Boulevard in Barangay 4, Pasay City where he was shot and wounded around 9:25 p.m.
He said the suspects drove closely to the vehicle of the victim and shot the occupants.
The suspects immediately sped off toward Buendia Avenue after the shooting incident.
Uy said police investigators are set to get the statement of Montawal to determine if he had received death threats prior to the ambush.
