Next DBM chief highly qualified, has impressive track record—Angara
Senator Sonny Angara on Tuesday vouched that the upcoming Department of Budget and Management (DBM) secretary of the incoming administration of President-elect Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos, Jr. is highly qualified and has an impressive track record.
Angara said Amenah Pangandaman, concurrent Assistant Governor of the Banko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP), who was chosen by Marcos Jr. himself as the next DBM chief, has had a long experience working at the legislative and executive branches of government.
“Napakahaba na ng karanasan ni Mina sa legislature at executive branches, kaya natutuwa akong makakatuwang namin siyang muli sa pag-aaral sa 2023 national budget sa mga darating na araw (Mina has a long experience in the legislature and executive branches, that’s why I am happy to work with her again in studying the proposed 2023 national budget in the coming days),” Angara said in a statement.
The senator said Pangandaman had served as chief of staff of his father former Senate President Edgardo J. Angara, and also served as a chief of staff of Senator Loren Legarda when the latter chaired the Senate Committee on Finance.
Assistant Governor of te BSP, Pangandaman was instrument in carrying out projects of the BSP Governor within and outside of the agency.
Prior to her appointment, Pangandaman also served as an undersecretary under the Duterte administration and worked primarily at the DBM’s Department Liaison Office and Budet Technical Bureau.
Angara also recalled that Pangandaman actively led the agency in pushing for budget reforms and was at the forefront of implementing and monitoring the General Appropriations Act (GAA).
Pangandaman graduated at the Far Eastern University (FEU) with a degree on Economics and a Master’s degree in Development Economics from the University of the Philippines (UP). She is also currently finishing her Executive Master of Public Administration at the London School of Economics.
Angara had said he is confident that with her stint in the Senate, the DBM and BSP, there would be a “smooth coordination” between the legislative and executive branch especially on matters regarding the national budget.
