Metro Manila's 7-day average of Covid-19 cases up by 19% — OCTA

Metro Manila has seen an “uptick” in new Covid-19 cases over the past week, as the region’s seven-day average rose by 19 percent for the period May 13 to 19, the independent research group OCTA said in its latest monitoring.

“The daily average of new Covid-19 cases in the NCR had a 19 percent increase on May 13 to 19, compared with May 6 to 12, from 59 to 71 ,” OCTA fellow Dr. Guido David shared in an update on Twitter Friday, May 20.

He said that Metro Manila is seeing an uptick in Covid-19 cases but remained at low risk as of May 19.

“The one-week ADAR (average daily attack rate) increased from 0.42 to 0.50, but remained very low . The reproduction number increased to 0.90 (moderate risk level) from 0.76 (low risk level),” David added.

Meanwhile, the Covid positivity rate remained at 1.2 percent over an average of 11,476 tests per day, he said.

Hospital care utilization rate also remained low at 22 percent.

The ADAR or incidence rate refers to the number of new daily cases per 100,000 population, while the reproduction number refers to the average number of secondary infections by each infected individual.

Meanwhile, positivity rate refers to the number of individuals who yielded positive results from among those who have been tested for Covid-19.

The Department of Health on May 17 confirmed the local transmission of the more contagious Omicron subvariant BA.2.12.1, which has become the more prominent subvariant, causing a sustained increase in Covid cases in the United States.
