MB Daily News Update: Biden makes Marcos, PH appear special

Not only did a meeting with President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. and United States (US) President Joe Biden push through in New York, but the circumstances of the meeting made the Philippine leader--and Filipinos by extension--appear special.

This, after Press Secretary Trixie Cruz-Angeles revealed that Marcos was the only head of state that Biden spoke to on the sidelines of the 77th Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).

Malacañang said 48 requests were made to Biden, but in the end the US President only chose to rub elbows with Marcos. Angeles called the development "significant".

This was the first bilateral meeting between the two current leaders of Philippines and US, which are long-time mutual defense treaty (MDT) allies.

Back here at home, Filipinos are bracing for another rainy weekend as tropical storm "Karding" maintained its intensity. It is expected to bring rains particularly in northern and central Luzon beginning Saturday.

“There is a high likelihood that tropical cyclone wind signals may be hoisted over northern and central Luzon and some parts of southern Luzon,” the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said.

Karding has maximum sustained winds of 65 kilometers per hour (kph), gustiness of up to 80 kph, and it is moving westward.
