Idol PH 2019 finalist Kevin Hermogenes drops first single ‘When I Fall,’ wants to collab with Regine Velasquez

Born and raised in Taguig, Kevin Hermogenes officially released his first single titled “When I Fall.” “Really an honor to sing When I Fall originally written for Jed Madela. This is the beginning of my music career,” he said.

“When I Fall” is written by singer and producer Garth Garcia and originally made for Jed Madela. Everything is right on time for Kevin after Jed changed the whole concept of his album. The song found him as Kevin shared.

The newbie singer said, “I made the demo for this song for Manong Jed so it really has a special place in my heart. I can’t believe I was able to release the song as my own.”

He added, “I am thankful to Garth Garcia for this opportunity to sing one of the songs he wrote. This opportunity will allow me to release my own music in the future.”

Like other aspiring singers, this talented artist joined several singing competitions and made a huge impact with his singing voice.

In 2015, Kevin auditioned for the World Championships of Performing Arts (WCOPA) at Opera Haus, Makati. He can still remember that he was the fourth person to audition. The panel of judges included the first Filipino WCOPA Grand Champion of the World, Jed Madela.

He sang Whitney Houston’s “I Have Nothing” in the audition and got a brief “Thank you” after his piece. He was not expecting to pass the audition because all previous people who auditioned before him were asked for second songs. However, he was pleasantly surprised when he got a text message that said, “Congratulations! You have passed the auditions for WCOPA Team Philippines 2016.”

Held at Long Beach California in July 2016, Kevin got bronze medals for Gospel, R&B/Jazz and Contemporary categories. Through the competition, he was also able to meet dozens of like-minded artists and individuals who shared the same passion for music and artistry as he does. When asked to describe his experience, he said, “I grew up a lot as a person and as an artist. Everything started in WCOPA.”

Because of his good experience with the competition, Kevin competed once again in the virtual World Championships of Performing Arts in 2020 where he got into the semi-finals and earned a silver medal.

In 2019, Kevin tried his luck at Idol Philippines and made it to Top 20. He also joined Showtime’s Tawag ng Tanghalan.

In a statement, he said, “Joining Tawag ng Tanghalan and Idol Philippines is one for the books! Because I’ve always wanted to perform on national TV and be seen by people.

“Although I didn’t make it to the top, of course I was sad at first but still enjoyed it and I think that’s how it is in these kind of competitions—you win you lose but that doesn’t mean you’re less.

“I always say just give them a great show and performance because for me it’s my Heart and love for music and performing is what keeps me grounded as well, so that whatever happens in the end of the day I love what I’m doing and will tell my self I did my best and I’m proud of it.

“And I enjoyed every bit of that experience and I will always be Grateful because I’ve gained a lot of friendship from other amazing singers and it gave me a lot of inspiration and drive to do well in my craft as well. Every experience has learnings and what I’ve learned is that as long as I believe in what I can do and have right attitude, I can go far.”

Regine Velasquez, Lani Misalucha, Jaya, Gary V, Jed Madela, Basil Valdez, Luther Vandross, Stevie Wonder, Whitney Houston, Mariah Carey, Bryan Mcknight, Smokey Norful, Boyz 2Men, Music Soulchild, Frank Sinatra, Michael Jackson, Aretha Franklin, Eric Benet, Jennifer Hudson, Cynthia Erivo are his music idols.

Kevin’s ultimate dream is to collaborate with Asia’s Songbird. “ I grew up with her music! And she is my inspiration eversince.”

“When I Fall” is available on Spotify and other digital music platforms.

“When I sing in front of an audience, I don’t let my insecurities get to me like before. I sing for the heart and not for the eyes,” he ended.
