Earl Clark erupts for 45 as NLEX stuns TNT to arrest slide

Earl Clark flexed his might and erupted for 45 points to tow NLEX to a stunning 110-101 victory over TNT Tropang Giga to arrest a two game slide in the 2022 PBA Commissioner’s Cup at the PhilSports Arena in Pasig City on Wednesday, Oct. 19.

Clark was a consistent force for the Road Warriors all-game long but shone brighter in the payoff period when his 11 fourth-quarter points helped NLEX buoy a blistering rally from the Tropang Giga who even took a three-point lead after trailing by as many as 12 points in the first half.

The NLEX import who also hauled down 16 boards and had four blocks across his name anchored a crucial an 11-0 spurt in the final frame that stretched a precarious one-point cushion, 84-83, into a double-digit advantage, 95-83, with six minutes left. The run proved to be enough for a separation as the Road Warriors finally handed out new coach Frankie Lim his first taste victory over 

Kevin Alas added 24 points – 11 of which also came in the final frame to backstop Clark while Don Trollano and Matt Nieto contributed 16 and 12 points, respectively.

The Tropang Giga started out the game flat but managed to get back into the contest behind the efforts of import and Gilas naturalization candidate Cam Oliver who posted 26 points and 22 rebounds while RR Pogoy, who was one of the catalysts of TNT's second half run, had 19 points.

Mikey Williams also added 16 points while Oftana had 11 in his first meeting against his former team NLEX.

NLEX actually raced to an early double-digit lead at the end of the opening frame, 26-20, but quickly vanished as TNT came within four at the break, 49-45.

The Tropang Giga then banked on a trademark third-quarter onslaught where they exploded for 32 points to retake the lead before the Road Warriors countered it with their own 36-point eruption in the final frame to put the game to rest.
