Covid-19 risk in Cebu province remains low — OCTA

Cebu province, as well as Metro Cebu, remained under “low risk” classification for Covid-19, according to the latest report of the independent research group OCTA.

In an update shared on Twitter on Wednesday, Sept. 28, OCTA fellow Dr. Guido David noted that cases in Cebu province and Metro Cebu—comprising Cebu City, Mandaue City, and Lapu-Lapu City—were still low.

“Although the trend in new cases per day has plateaued to baseline levels of 40 new cases per day over the past week, the level of cases is very low based on an average daily attack rate of 0.77 or less than one per day per 100,000 as of Sept. 27,” David said.

The positivity rate in the whole of Cebu was at 5 percent as of Sept. 26, which is within the recommended positivity rate of the World Health Organization.

David said Cebu province averaged over 700 tests per day.

“The low positivity rate confirms that infections have decreased to low levels in Cebu,” he added.

Moreover, David pointed out that the plateauing of new cases is reflected by a reproduction number of 0.99, which is close to 1.

David added that healthcare utilization for Covid-19 cases in Cebu province and Metro Cebu remained low at 27 percent, while ICU occupancy was at 12 percent, as of Sept. 26.

“Both are way below 50 percent,” he said, adding that “all indicators for Cebu and Metro Cebu were favorable.”
