Carlos Yulo misses floor exercise, rings final of Apparatus World Cup

Former world champion Carlos Yulo lost his touch after failing to advance in the final round of the men’s floor exercise and rings events in the 2023 FIG Individual Apparatus World Cup in Cottbus, Germany Thursday, Feb. 23.

The 23-year-old Tokyo Olympian struggled in his pet event, the floor exercise, where he finished 20th among the 52-player field with a score of 13.400.

He registered 6.400 in degree of difficulty but managed to score 7.000 in execution.

Reigning Olympic champion Artem Dolgopyat of Israel topped the qualifications with 14.833, while Kazakhstan’s Milad Karimi and France’s Benjamin Osberger came in second and third with 14.600 and 14.066 scores.

Yulo was also not in his best form in the rings where he finished 13th among 47 gymnasts with 13.833 after scoring 8.133 in execution in his 5.700 degree of difficulty routine.

Three-time world champion Eleftherios Petrounias of Greece topped the qualifiers after posting 14.733, while Iran’s Mahdi Ahmad Kohani and Turkey’s Adem Asil came in second and third with 14.666 and 14.633.

Yulo still has a chance for medals when he competes in the qualifications of vault and parallel bars in the coming days.
