The Valenzuela City government on Wednesday, Feb. 22, started clearing city roads of tangled cable wires or "spaghetti" wires for the safety of residents and motorists.
The "Oplan Linis Ganda Cable" aims to ensure road safety, provide residents with more spaces, and ease traffic congestion on public highways.
City government personnel started to clear the hanging wires along the city's main road, MacArthur Highway, last Feb. 2.
Valenzuela City Mayor Weslie "Wes" Gatchalian initiated the project by collaborating with line workers of utility companies, including Converge, PLDT, Meralco, and Globe Telecommunications.
The local government said it received complaints from residents about the tangled wires that cause concerns and inconvenience to passersby.
"These tangled electrical cables are also an eyesore that affect the aesthetic of the place. In line with this, the local government aims to clean the main roads and even the congested roads so that no more accidents will happen while exerting efforts in restoring the beauty of the city roads," the city government said.
The city government said more cables are found in the barangays of Marulas, Karuhatan, Malinta, and Malanday. The operations will continue until all the tangled wires are removed.
The city's Engineering Office (EO) said the wires that were already extracted from the electrical posts were returned to the utility companies.
The city government assured the public that line workers will try to finish the project immediately to prevent any inconvenience to motorists.
