QC cops, civilians showcase artistic talents in painting contest

The Quezon City Police District (QCPD) previously held a canvass painting contest as part of its efforts in promoting the artistic talents of its uniformed and non-uniformed personnel as well as civilians of all ages.

According to QCPD, the entries to the painting contest were submitted on Nov. 18 at the District Plans and Strategy Management Division (DPSMD).

The contest's awarding ceremony was held in Camp Karingal and was attended by socialist-realist painter Edgar Fernandez and multi-disciplinary artist Samuel Penaso.

Rency Capistrano was declared the grand winner of the contest and won P35,000; Jeffrey San Jose, who is a Person Under Police Custody (PUPC) detained at the Centralized Custodial Facility in Camp Karingal, won 1st place and received P25,000; Marielle Cortez bagged the 2nd prize and received P20,000; and Lawrence Perez was 3rd place and received P15,000.

“I congratulate all the winners, and of course, to all those who actively participated in the contest, thank you! Lahat kayo ay magagaling (All of you are good)," QCPD District Director Brig. Gen. Nicolas Torre III said during the awarding ceremony.

The QCPD said that the contest was in line with QCPD's weeklong celebration of its upcoming 83rd founding anniversary.

Torre spearheaded the weeklong celebration which started with a fun run on Nov. 20, followed by a kick-off ceremony coinciding with the traditional Monday flag-raising ceremony on Nov. 21.

More than 600 runners participated in QCPD's fun run where the proceeds will go to the families and dependents of the Warriors, Operators, Liberators Foundation (WOLF) Charity Movement through scholarship grants.

“Aside from raising money for a worthy cause, this activity is not only beneficial to our life’s aspects but it also enhances our social interaction with the community,” Torre said.
