To further curb criminality and maintain peace and order in the communities, the Pasig City local government inaugurated a police outpost located in Jabson Street in Purok 6, Barangay Kalawaan, Pasig City on Tuesday, Feb. 21.
Pasig City Mayor Vico Sotto led the turnover ceremony, along with Pasig police chief Col. Celerino Sacro Jr., Sub-Station 2 Officer-in-Charge Cpt. Richard Tomas, City Councilor Mark Gil "Volta" Delos Santos, Barangay Kalawaan Councilor Louie E. Afable, representatives from the homeowners associations (HOAs), and residents of Purok 6.
Sotto said the outpost will help the police, barangay, and HOAs in keeping and maintaining peace and order in the area.
He said there have been reported incidents of theft and other crimes in the area, which he has discussed with Councilor Afable.
Sotto credited Afable for pushing for the creation of the outpost for the benefit of the community.
He said he believes that police presence will help lower crime incidents in Purok 6.
"Pag tiningnan po natin ang report ng ating PNP, talagang maganda naman po ang sitwasyon ng peace and order sa pangkabuuan. Pero meron po tayong mga tinatawag na 'hotspots' (When we look at the reports from the Philippine National Police (PNP), our peace and order situation in general in Pasig is good. However, we do have what we call 'hotspots')," Sotto said.
"Kami po, ang trabaho namin sa lokal na pamahalaan ay siguraduhin na nabibigyan natin ang ating kapulisan ng mga tools o mga pangangailangan nila. Dapat kung ano ang kailangan itulong natin sa kanila, gawin po natin (Our job in the local government is to ensure that we are providing our police force with the proper tools and their other needs. We must give them whatever help we can offer)," he added.
He commended the Pasig police, led by Col. Sacro, for their efficiency and hard work, noting the achievements of the police in reducing criminality in the city.
Sotto expressed hope that his fellow public service leaders will continue to be proactive, especially in handling crime incidents in these hotspots.
In a social media post, Councilor Delos Santos agreed that the police outpost will aid in maintaining peace and order because it is located at the center of a resettlement area. Police will be able to respond quickly to incidents, he noted.
Along with the police outpost, a mini multi-purpose hall was opened for the residents' recreational activities and barangay officials' meetings and other government-related events.
Both facilities were constructed by the Office of General Services (OGS) of the local government.
