What happened to weapons decommissioning in BARMM? Hataman wants to know

What happened to the decommissioning of weapons in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM)?

House Deputy Minority Leader and Basilan lone district Rep. Mujiv Hataman had this question in mind amid the spate of violent incidents down south, the latest of which was the attempted assassination of Lanao del Sur Governor Mamintal Adiong Jr. last Friday.

"We have worked long and hard to achieve peace in the region, which I believe we started enjoying, until recently. Pero bakit ang pakiramdam ng mamamayan ay mas lalong lumalala ang sitwasyon kaysa bumubuti? (But why is it that the people feel that the situation is getting worse, instead of improving?)" Hataman said in a statement.

"Hindi ba dapat ay meron na tayong decommissioning ng mga armas ng private armies at dating mga rebelde? Ano na nga ba ang nangyayari sa normalization process? Ang karahasang ito ay hindi kailanman normal sa panahon ng kapayapaan (Wasn't there a decommissioning of weapons from private armies and rebels? What ever happened to the normalization process? This kind of violence isn't normal during peace time)," he said.

On Friday, unidentified gunmen staged an ambush on Adiong's convoy. Although the governor survived the attack, four of his security personnel were killed.

Hataman, a former governor of the defunct Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM), has also expressed concern over the successive killings in Pikit, Cotabato, the latest victim of which was a 13-year-old pupil; the ambush and killing of a Marine sergeant and Philippine National Police (PNP) official in Lanao del Sur; and the hostage 39 members of the Philippine Army, also in Lanao del Sur.


"I call on the law enforcement agencies to identify and arrest the perpetrators of these incidents.
