ILOILO CITY – The city government is reviewing the waste-to-energy proposal of a subsidiary of Metro Pacific Investments Corp. (MPIC).
“We are presently evaluating the proposal submitted,” said Mayor Jerry Treñas in a statement.
Metro Pacific Water (MPW) expressed interest last August to build one of the country’s most technologically advanced waste recovery facilities here.
Known as the Iloilo Solid Waste Management Facility (ISWMF), the project will utilize garbage collected and use it as a form of renewable energy.
The city government is seriously considering the project since the sanitary landfill here may be operating beyond its capacity in the future.
In its proposal, MPW noted that ISWMF can significantly reduce waste that ends up in landfills. It can process at least 450 tons of waste per day and generate 120 metric tons of refuse-derived fuel per day.
The selection committee for the city government’s public-private partnership (PPP) projects is currently reviewing the project.
MPW already has a presence here and nearby towns in the water sector via the Metro Pacific Iloilo Water (MPIW), a joint venture with State-owned Metro Iloilo Water District (MIWD) to operate the water utility.
