PCG: 5 fishermen rescued as boat capsizes off Oriental Mindoro
The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) rescued five fishermen after their fishing boat capsized due to bad weather in Oriental Mindoro on Sunday, Feb. 19.

A report from the PCG identified the fishermen as Edmon Manato, 52, boat captain; Jayvee Manato, 22; Rocky Madera, 23; Allen Dela Cruz, 23; and Ernie Merida, 51.
The PCG said that fishing boat “La Capitana” capsized in the vicinity waters of Bansud municipality after being hit by big waves and strong winds.
Combined search and rescue (SAR), K9, and special operations unit from Coast Guard District-Roxas, Philippine National Police (PNP) Maritime Group and Bansud municipal disaster risk reduction and management office (MDRRMO worked together until they found the five fishermen fighting for their lives at sea.
Photos shared by the PCG showed that the fishermen survived by holding on to plastic containers that kept them afloat.


The fishermen were brought to Oriental Mindoro Southern District Hospital for medical attention and the PCG said they were all declared to be in a stable condition.
Over the weekend, heavy rains due to a low pressure area (LPA) and localized thunderstorms have affected the MIMAROPA (Occidental and Oriental Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon, and Palawan) or Region 4B.
