Five men involved in scuffle with Pasig road clearing team arrested
Police arrested five men who were involved in a scuffle with members of a clearing operations team in Barangay Kapasigan, Pasig City last Saturday, Feb. 18.
The report given to Pasig City Police Station (CPS) chief Col. Celerino Sacro Jr. identified the suspects as “Den,” 52; “Nif,” 18; “Waf,” 26; “Wari,” 22; and “Muiz,” 25.
According to initial investigation, the Pasig Action Line Team, led by Allan Salazar, was dispatched to clear an area in Barangay Kapasigan of illegal vendors.
Officers from the Pasig police headed by Sub-Station Commander Cpt. Jazon Lovendino, and the Tactical Motorcycle Riding Unit (TMRU) provided area security for the clearing operations.
The suspects reportedly confronted the Action Line team, resulting in a heated argument between the two parties.
The report noted that the suspects were heard saying “kapag kinuha niyo mga paninda namin, magkakagulo tayo (if you take our products, things will go awry).”
Afterwards, the vendors punched and kicked some members of the clearing team, according to the report.
A video of the scuffle was posted on social media.
Members of the Action Line Division Office, identified as Reynan, Wilfredo, and Allan, sustained injuries due to the attack and reported the incident to the police.
Personnel from the Caniogan Police Sub-Station (SS2), the other members of the Action Line team, and the TMRU were able to place the situation under control and arrested the suspects.
The suspects were brought to the Rizal Medical Center (RMC) for medical examination, then transferred to the custody of the Pasig CPS.
The five men are facing direct assault and resistance, and disobedience to a person in authority charges.
