
QUEZON, Quezon – A cargo boat loaded with empty Liquefied Petroleum Gas tanks sank after it was struck by strong waves generated by inclement weather in Lamon Bay in Barangay Cagbalugo here on Monday morning, Feb. 20.
The Quezon Police Provincial Office (QPPO)-Public Information Office (PIO) said that M/V Rome Rhona owned by businesswoman Edna Araza Panol left the port of the municipality at around 8 a.m. and was battered by strong waves upon reaching the sea of Barangay Cagbalugo at around 9:30 a.m.
The Quick Reaction Team of the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO) and the police rescued boat captain Bembo Panol and three crew.
The boat sustained damage to its hull and was towed to the shoreline of Barangay Roma, Lopez, Quezon. Its cargo was scattered in the sea and is being recovered.
