For those building their businesses, you may want to check out the Synology DiskStation DS1522+, a powerful and reliable NAS device, which can be used for storage, file sharing, data protection, and surveillance.

The DS1522+ is equipped with an AMD Ryzen 1600 CPU, 8GB of RAM, and five hard drive bays, which can be expanded with ten additional bays. The hard drive bays are hot-swappable, which means you can easily replace a failed drive without shutting down the device. The DS1522+ also has two USB 3.0 ports, allowing you to connect external storage devices like flash drives, external hard drives, and other devices. There are two eSATA ports and four RJ-45 1GbE LAN port.

It supports multiple RAID configurations, like Synology Hybrid RAID (SHR), RAID 0, RAID 1, RAID 5, and so on. With a Synology Expansion Unit, you can create a drive with a total of 240TB.

The DS1522+ also features a host of software features that make it a great choice for businesses. Just like all Synology NAS, DS1522+ is powered by the operating system called DiskStation Manager (DSM), which software provides a user-friendly interface for setting up and managing the DS1522+, as well as other connected devices. With DSM, you can easily access and share files, backup data, use surveillance, stream media, and more.

Using the DS1522+ as a file server

The DS1522+ can be transformed into a business file server from day one. This includes:

  • Access and share files remotely
  • All files will be centralized in the NAS
  • Every account can have their own storage. The IT team can also set up different folders and assign permissions.
  • Synology Office allows real-time collaboration, employees can edit the same docx, spreadsheet, and slides. These files support versioning, so if someone accidentally deletes a content, employees can still find the content via versioning feature.

Protecting data with the DS1522+

Another highlight that makes the DS1522+ a top choice for business servers is the built-in data protection applications without any license fees. These applications can help businesses to:

  • Backup Windows/MacOS PCs, physical servers, file servers, VMs and SaaS like Microsoft 365 and Google Workspace.
  • Schedule backup task so that the data will be automatically backed up at the scheduled time.
  • Businesses can also build high availability between the two DS1522+. When one server goes down, the other server would take over, which ensures business continuity.

For security, using the DS1522+ as a surveillance server

Aside from the file serving and data protection, I keep looking back at the DS1522+ as a solid device for surveillance. It’s a great device to have to keep watch of your inventories, how your business is doing when you’re away, and for security purposes as well. The DS1522+ is compatible with over 8,200 cameras from over 140 known brands. Also, for businesses with multiple offices, the Centralized Management System (CMS) will allow security personal to view cameras across branches on one dashboard without additional costs.

Verdict

Overall, the DS1522+ is a versatile data hub for businesses. It can not only store data but also allow businesses to access and manage files, collaborate remotely, backup data without license fees, and safeguard business assets. For businesses finding a reliable and diverse server, DS1522+ is definitely a great choice to go.
