Pasay City Mayor Emi Calixto-Rubiano announced that 99 out of 201 barangays in the city have been declared drug-free.
Rubiano made the announcement during the regular Monday (Feb. 20) flag-raising ceremony held at the Pasay City Hall quadrangle.
She said declaring the 99 barangays as drug-free is a result of the city government’s campaign against the spread of illegal drugs.
The mayor thanked the city's barangay chairmen for helping the city government in its fight against illegal drugs.
Rubiano said three barangays were recognized as “drug-free barangays” based on the recommendation of the City Anti-Drug Abuse Council (CADAC).
She said the new “drug-free barangays” are Barangays 134 under Chairman Noel Mariano, 20 under Chairman Antonio Donaire, and 164 under Chairman Robert Cruz.
The mayor said from May, 19,2018 to December 14, 99 villages out of 201 were already declared as “drug-free” according to the validation made by the Regional Oversight Committee for Barangay Drug Clearing (ROCBDC) program.
Rubiano said the ROCBDC is composed of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA), Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG),Philippine National Police (PNP), and the city government.
The CADAC reported that validation is already being conducted for the remaining barangays that are working hard to stop the spread of illegal drugs in their areas.
Rubiano praised CADAC for a job well done in its barangay-to-barangay assessments.
She also commended the Pasay City Police headed by Col. Froilan Uy, barangay officials, and all city residents for working together in ridding the city of illegal drugs.
"We couldn't have done it without your help," Rubiano said.
