Navotas gov’t backs single ticketing system for road violations in NCR

Navotas City Mayor John Reynald “John Rey” Tiangco said on Thursday, Feb. 2, that the city government supports the single ticketing system for traffic or road violations that will soon be implemented in all the local government units (LGU) in the National Capital Region (NCR).

On Wednesday, Feb. 1, the Metro Manila Council (MMC), headed by San Juan City Mayor Francis Zamora, and the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) approved the MMC Resolution 2023-2 that establishes the Metro Manila Traffic Code of 2023.

According to the MMDA, the traffic code provides a system for interconnectivity among government instrumentalities involved in transport and traffic management and “harmonize the existing national and local laws on traffic enforcement” in the region. It will standardize the fine and penalties committed by motorists while on the roads of NCR.

It said that the approval and adoption of the resolution of the LGUs will also help address different procedures of apprehension, payment of fines, redemption of licenses and plates, as well as uncoordinated implementation of laws that gives confusion to motorists and loss of money.

“We fully support the single ticketing system. Having a uniform policy on traffic violations will benefit our driving public, preventing confusion on the amount to be paid and easing payment of penalties,” Tiangco said in a statement on Thursday.

Zamora said that resolution will be endorsed to the Land Transportation Office, and the 17 LGUs in Metro Manila were given until March 15 to pass respective ordinances in their cities adopting the Metro Manila Traffic Code 2023 to fully implement the single ticketing system.

“Our Sanggunian is already preparing to pass an ordinance to adopt the Metro Manila Traffic Code,” the Navotas City mayor said.

Meanwhile, the local government of Caloocan City also said that they are in the process of developing an ordinance in complaince with the resolution.

"To ensure the successful implementation of the single ticketing system in Caloocan, we already started providing trainings and seminars to our employees from the Public Safety and Traffic Management Department," it said.
