Wayward mixer truck triggers multiple collision in Laguna


CALAMBA CITY, Laguna – An undetermined number of people was reportedly injured in a multiple collision triggered by a wayward mixer truck on the national highway in Barangay Real here on Saturday afternoon, Feb. 18.

Struck by the mixer truck were 13 vehicles – four cars, three tricycles, three vans, one Sports Utility Vehicle, and two passenger jeepneys.

Police said driver Dennis Barrientos lost control of the mixer truck and rammed ten vehicles traversing the lane from Barangay Turbina at around 5 p.m. The mixer truck then struck three vehicles on the opposite lane.

Drivers of the vehicles were identified as Raissa Lyn Dalisay, Rodney Dalo, Jesebel Sales, Leoniel Apostol, Harold Joseph Senosin, Jenmark Cabahug, John Cuevas, Winifredo Gonzales, Mark Allan Hernandez, Jomarey Malbas, Justin Lu, Ryan Neil Manimtim, and Luis Maningkil.

Police are still locating the passengers of the jeepneys and injured victims taken to various hospitals as of posting time.

Calamba police received the report about the accident three hours later at around 9:35 p.m. from the Public Order and Safety Office command base stationed in the area.

Barrientos was arrested and taken to the Calamba police station.
