BACOLOD CITY – A 52-year-old sugarcane planter was robbed of P500,000 and gunned down in Hacienda Taborda, Barangay Robles, La Castellana, Negros Occidental on Friday, Feb. 17.

Police identified the victim as Saturnino Suprales, 52, of Barangay Montilla, Moises Padilla, Negros Occidental.
Major Rhojn Darell Nigos, La Castellana police chief, said the victim was tailed by three unidentified persons on board a Toyota Innova while he was driving his motorcycle.
Nigos said the suspects passed by the victim and waited for him to reach the area. The suspects stopped the victim, resulting in a commotion.
Suprales engaged one of the suspects in a fistfight but he was shot by one of them. Nigos said the suspects took the victim’s profit from his sugarcane mill worth more than P500,000 and fled on board their car.
The victim sustained four bullet wounds in the body and was declared dead on arrival in a hospital.
Police are probing if the victim’s workers are involved since they knew that he came from his sugarcane mill. Nigos said they will also check if the gunmen rented the vehicle.
