Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary Benjamin “Benhur” Abalos, Jr. ordered the Philippine National Police (PNP) to conduct a massive manhunt for the suspects behind the ambush of Lanao del Sur Governor Mamintal “Bombit” Alonto-Adiong, Jr. that killed four of his companions on
The attack occurred in Maguing town on Friday, Feb. 17.
Reports from the ground disclosed that Adiong and his convoy were traversing Sitio Landslide headed towards the municipality of Lao when they were ambushed by unidentified gunmen.
The governor and a member of his staff were wounded in the incident and are now under medical treatment at a nearby hospital but four of his police escorts were killed in the incident.
Even if Adiong survived the ambush, Abalos stated that it is disheartening to note that his companions were killed in the incident.
He sympathized with the victims, assuring their families that the police will not stop until the suspects are arrested and put behind bars.
Abalos also ordered the PNP to closely coordinate with the military units on the ground in hunting down the suspects and finding out the motive behind the incident. (Chito A. Chavez)
