Korean stars donate for victims of earthquake in Turkey, Syria

Donations are pouring in from Korean celebrities for the victims of the devastating earthquake that hit Turkey (Türkiye) and Syria on Feb. 6 resulting in the death of more than 40,000 people.

According to the Korean Committee for UNICEF, as of Feb. 17, the amount publicly donated by Korean stars and athletes to the emergency relief campaign for children affected by the earthquake has reached 1.1 billion won (about $846,000), Korean media reported.

Besides UNICEF, donations have been given to Save the Children, Hope Bridge in Korea, World Vision and the UN World Food Programme. .

BTS members J-Hope and Jimin donated 100 million won (about $77,000) each through UNICEF.

On Feb. 9, Lee Hye-ri donated 50 million won ($38,500) while Jang Geun-suk and Han Ji-min donated 100 million ($77,000) won each.

Other donations by Korean celebrities were: couple Song Yoon-ah and Seol Kyung-gu, 50 million won ($38,500); Suzy, 100 million won ($77,000); and Ji Chang-wook, 100 million won ($77,000); Yoo Jae-suk, 100 million won ($77,000); SM Entertainment, 200 million won ($154,000); TWICE, 200 million ($154,000); HYBE, 500 million won ($385,000); HYBE’s Bang Si-hyuk, 200 million won ($154,000); and ADOR and NewJeans, 200 million won ($154,000).

Park Seo-joon gave 100 million won ($77,000); actress Kim Hye-soon, 100 million won ($77,000); retired figure skater Kim Yuna, $100,000; JYP Entertainment, 500 million won ($385,000); Starship Entertainment and IVE, 150 million ($115,500); NCT’s Mark, 150 million won ($115,500); actress Kim Go-eun, 30 million won ($23,100); singer and actress Kim Se-jeong, 40 million won ($30,800); actress Yoo In-na, 30 million won ($23,100); actress Jung Ryeo-won, 50 million won ($38,500); singer DinDin, 10 million won ($7,700); actress Shin Min-ah, 50 million won ($38,500); actor Im Si-wan, 10 million won ($7,700); NCT’s Haechan, 100 million won ($77,000); NCT’s Doyoung, 100 million won ($77,000); and singer Chung-ha, 20 million won.

Stray Kids’ Hyunjin donated 100 million won ($77,000); Stray Kids’ Changbin, 100 million won ($77,000); Stray Kids’ Felix, 50 million won ($38,500); ITZY’s Ryujin, 50 million ($38,500); (G)I-DLE's Soyeon, 20 million won ($15,400); and (G)I-DLE's Minnie, 20 million won ($15,400).

More Korean celebrities have made contributions for the earthquake relief efforts.
