The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has completed a two-lane permanent bridge worth P115.8 million that now connects communities in Baler, Aurora.
In a report to DPWH Secretary Manuel Bonoan, DPWH Region 3 Director Roseller Tolentino said the project has dramatically benefitted the residents of Barangay Obligacion as it allows them easier access to the neighboring towns in Baler.
“The completion of the 120-lineal-meter Bridge now links Barangay Obligacion to Baler’s town center in Barangay Reserva,’’ the DPWH said.
Tolentino stated that the construction of the bridge was prioritized to provide a replacement to the old overflow bridge that becomes impassable when the river water swells during the typhoons and the rainy seasons.
Aside from the bridge, DPWH Undersecretary Robert Bernardo said that the project also included the construction of a 250-meter road approach and a 509-lineal-meter flood control structure to protect the bridge foundation against scouring.
He added that solar street lights were also installed to ensure the safety of motorists passing through the bridge at night.
