Rainy weekend ahead in parts of PH

The low pressure area (LPA) and northeast monsoon may continue to bring rains over parts of the country this weekend, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said on Friday, Feb. 17.

PAGASA continues to monitor two LPAs—one located 765 kilometers (km) east-southeast of Hinatuan, Surigao del Sur, and the other 1,110 km east of Eastern Visayas.

Although the two LPAs may merge into one circulation, PAGASA said there is a low chance these may become a tropical cyclone in the next 24 to 48 hours.

The trough or extension of the LPA, however, may bring cloudy weather with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms over Eastern Visayas, Northern Mindanao, Caraga, Davao Region, and Bohol.

Meanwhile, the northeast monsoon or “amihan” may bring cloudy and rainy weather in the Cagayan Valley, Cordillera Administrative Region, Bicol Region, Aurora, and Quezon.

PAGASA warned those in areas affected by the LPA and amihan to stay vigilant against possible flooding or landslides during moderate to heavy rains.

The rest of Mindanao will have partly cloudy to cloudy weather with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms due to localized thunderstorms.

The public is also advised to stay vigilant against possible flash floods or landslides during severe thunderstorms.

PAGASA said the rest of the country will continue to experience partly cloudy to cloudy weather with light amihan rains.
