CEBU CITY -- Local government units (LGUs) from the Fifth District of Cebu showcased their respective tourist destinations, products and delicacies during the opening of the “R’ Cebu: Fiesta sa Kinto” on Friday, Feb. 17, at Robinsons Galleria-Cebu here.
Cebu Gov. Gwen Garcia spearheaded the opening of the expo which is participated by the towns of Borbon, Sogod, Catmon, Carmen, Compostela, Liloan, San Francisco, Poro, Tudela and Pilar of Camotes Islands.
The annual expo will have a total of six legs. Each leg will feature one district in every three-day expo.
“It’s actually ‘Our Cebu’ but since we are partnering with Robinsons, we call the expo ‘R Cebu,’ said Marti Ybañez, Cebu’s Tourism Officer.
“This is an expo wherein all destinations of the LGUs, products will be displayed. All of them will be showcased here,” added Ybañez.

Cebu Province actually has seven districts but the expo will only have six legs after the Second and Sixth Districts were combined.
Ybañez said the expo started in Jan. 2021 when the country was slowly opening economic activities.
“At the time, we were starting to recover from the pandemic. The malls were starting to open but the people were still afraid to go out,” noted Ybañez.
“We decided to launch this expo because we needed tourism and economic recovery. So all the products from provinces, we brought them here. We catered to locals so at the time, we were helping each other,” added Ybañez.
Ybañez said the start of the very first expo was highly successful as products of the participants were sold out.
“It was like an announcement that ‘yes, we are already open,’” Ybañez said.
Ybañez said there were apprehensions when the holding of the expo was planned but three years after the launching, participating LGUs have been appreciative of the opportunity given to them.
“They are very happy because for one, there are no registration fees and they get all the proceeds that they generate. The province is providing them with food during the duration of the expo and the Robinsons provide them with necessary equipment for the exhibit,” Ybañez said.
Exhibitors were also not asked to pay rentals by Robinsons.
The participating LGUs were also able to establish contact through the expo.
“They already have concessionaires. We have these so-called “R’ Cebu babies” because they started here and now they are already doing it big-time,” Ybañez said.
