40 PWDs, solo parents join livelihood training program in Caloocan

The Caloocan City government announced on Friday, Feb. 17, that 40 persons with disabilities (PWDs) and solo parents underwent its free livelihood training program.

"Ang pagsasagawa natin ng libreng training ay bahagi ng ating paglalayon na mabigyan ng pantay-pantay na oportunidad ang bawat Batang Kankaloo na kumita o magkaroon ng sariling pangkabuhayan (The conduct of our free training is part of our goal to provide equal opportunities to every Batang Kankaloo to earn or have their own livelihood)," Caloocan City Mayor Dale Gonzalo “Along” Malapitan said.

The city government said the program for the PWDs and solo parents in Barangay 73 was held through the coordination of the Public Employment Service Office (PESO) and Persons with Disability Affairs Office (PDAO).

The participants were taught how to make “puto," a local delicacy made of rice or flour, and dishwashing liquid.

"Madali lang pong matutunan at maliit lang po ang puhunan na kailangan para makapag-simula ng negosyo ng pagtitinda ng puto o paggawa ng dishwashing liquid. Kasama sa ating tinuturo ang pagbu-budget at pagpre-presyo ng kanilang mga produkto (The livelihood skills are easy to learn and only a small investment is needed to start a business selling puto or making dishwashing liquid. We also taught them in budgeting and pricing their products)," PESO Officer-in-charge Violeta Gonzales said.

Action Officer Kim Daeam Sabay said PDAO will continue to coordinate with different organizations to help provide more livelihood opportunities for PWDs in the city.

Malapitan lauded the two departments for ensuring that the beneficiaries from different sectors have access to the city government’s programs.

The city government said it will continue to conduct livelihood training programs for PWDs and solo parents.
