Remains of OFW killed in Turkey earthquake brought home in Lucena City

LUCENA CITY, Quezon -- The remains of a female Overseas Filipino Worker (OFW) who died in the earthquake in Turkey arrived at her residence in Barangay Ilayang Dupay in this city on Thursday afternoon, Feb. 16.

The remains of Overseas Filipino Worker Wilma Abulad-Tezcan who died in Turkey tremor at her residence in Barangay Ilayang Dupay in Lucena City.

Wilma Abulad-Teczan’s remains that arrived from Turkey on Wednesday evening were directly brought to a funeral home.

Her body was placed in a hermetically-sealed metal box. It was transferred into a casket in the funeral home.

According to Abulad’s relatives, there will be a three-day vigil at the residence of Abulad before her internment on Saturday afternoon in a private cemetery in this city.

The victim’s relatives said the Muslim ritual will still be followed in the interment as per the Turkish husband’s request.

Wilma’s husband Gurol Tezcan will be arriving on Friday, Feb. 17, after getting a copy of a new passport that was lost in Wilma’s keep when the tragedy happened.

Abulad's family expressed thanks to those who helped with the repatriation of Wilma’s remains.

It may be recalled that Wilma’s father, William, a barangay tanod in Ilayang Dupay, sought the help of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr to repatriate his daughter’s remains on Feb. 10.

The Abulad family has expressed gratitude to the Philippine Embassy in Turkey and the Filipino community in Turkey for the immediate repatriation of Wilma’s remains.

Meanwhile, Department of Migrant Works (DMW) assistant secretary Venecio Legaspi has also arrived and expressed condolences to Wilma's family.
