The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) continues to monitor on Thursday, Feb. 16, a low pressure area (LPA) near Mindanao as it may bring more rains in some parts of the Visayas and Mindanao in the next 24 hours.

In its 11 a.m. weather advisory, PAGASA said the LPA was located 1,050 kilometers east of southeastern Mindanao around 10 a.m.

Although there is still a low chance of the weather disturbance becoming a tropical depression, the LPA is expected to move west-northwest toward the eastern part of the Visayas or Mindanao in the next few days.

“In the next 24 hours, the trough of the LPA will bring light to moderate with at times heavy rains during thunderstorms over Eastern Visayas, Caraga, and Davao Region,” PAGASA said in its advisory.

“Under these conditions, flooding and rain-induced landslides are possible, especially in areas that are highly or very highly susceptible to these hazards as identified in hazard maps and in areas with significant antecedent rainfall,” PAGASA warned.

It advised the public and concerned disaster risk reduction and management offices to take all necessary precautionary measures.

Meanwhile, partly cloudy to cloudy weather with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms due to localized thunderstorms and trough or extension of LPA may affect the rest of Mindanao.

PAGASA said Cagayan Valley, Cordillera Administrative Region, Aurora, Quezon, Oriental Mindoro, and Bicol Region will have cloudy and rainy weather, while the rest of Luzon and Visayas will experience partly cloudy to cloudy weather with light rains due to the northeast monsoon or “amihan.”
