MTRCB to take 'necessary measures' if film 'Plane' found to be harmful to PH

All “necessary measures” will be taken if the American film “Plane” is found to be harmful to the reputation of Filipinos as well as the country, said the Movie and Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB) on Thursday, Feb. 16.

This was after Filipino Senators raised their concerns regarding this matter during a discussion on Wednesday, saying that the movie paints a bad picture to the status of the nation.

“We acknowledge the sentiments expressed by our honorable Senators concerning the film Plane. Although the film is fictional, we still would not want our country to be portrayed in a negative and inaccurate light,” said MTRCB Chairperson Diorella Maria Sotto-Antonio.

“e will reevaluate the film in view of their concerns and will take all necessary measures if found to be in any way injurious to the prestige of the Philippines or its people,” the statement read.

Plane is an American action thriller film released in January 2023. In the movie, plane passengers find themselves in a “war zone” after their pilot makes an emergency landing on a war-torn territory which was later revealed to be Jolo Island in the Philippines.
