K-pop group Brave Girls disband

K-pop group Brave Girls, who rose to the top of music charts in 2021 with the song “Rollin,’” are disbanding after seven years. 

Brave Entertainment announced on Feb. 16 that Brave Girls’ exclusive contracts will end today (Feb. 16) and they will finish their activities with the release of the song “Goodbye.”

“The exclusive contracts of four of our artists Minyoung, Yujeong, Eunji, and Yuna will end today (Feb. 16). Accordingly, the Brave Girls will finish their official activities with the digital single 'Goodbye' that will be released today,” the agency said. 

It added, “Brave Girls members and our company have decided on a beautiful breakup after a long and in-depth discussion. We will not forget our support for each other, and now we will repay the fans' love in our new places.”

“We sincerely thank Minyoung, Yujeong, Eunji, and Yuna, who have worked passionately together with the joys and sorrows of the Brave Girls for the past seven years, and we give them a round of applause. We will always support the new activities of the members,” the agency said. 

It said, “Thank you again to the Fearless fans who have always been by the Brave Girls' side without fear. We ask for your continued love and warm interest towards Minyoung, Yujeong, Eunji, and Yuna.”

“Brave Girls started as a ‘reverse run icon’ and quickly grew into a girl group with unrivaled music power. We know very well that the Brave Girls' journey was not just a 'miracle' but was able to write a 'myth' thanks to the members and fans. We will forever remember Brave Girls, the ‘icon of hope,’” Brave Entertainment said. 

The original Brave Girls debuted in 2011 but the current members–Minyoung, Yujeong, Eunji and Yuna–debuted in the group in 2016. 

Brave Girls were on the verge of disbanding until “Rollin,’” originally released in March 2017 as the main track of Brave Girls’ album with the same name, started to become popular in 2021. 

Its popularity started when YouTube channel Viditor uploaded on Feb. 24, 2021 a video of Brave Girls’ various performances of “Rollin’” in front of Korean soldiers. The video also contained comments from soldiers saying the song has been popular in the military for years. 

“Rollin’” experienced its heyday after four years as it climbed to No. 1 on all Korean music charts and achieved a “Perfect AllKill” status when it topped all real-time, daily and weekly music charts. 

Through “Rollin,’” Brave Girls won their first ever trophy on Korean TV music show “Inkigayo” on March 14, 2021. 

“We were on the verge of disbanding. I thought I would never be able to stand on stage again. We are grateful for this big award,” said Minyoung who also thanked the group members for hanging in there until now and her parents.
