DICT commits to a 'stronger digital cooperation' with Japan
To accelerate digitalization in the Philippines and enhance its processes, the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) has partnered with Japan’s Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC).
The said alliance was made official through the signing of a Memorandum of Cooperation (MOC) between the two nations on Feb. 9. 2023.

“The Philippines, through the DICT, has reinforced its cooperation in the field of ICT with Japan. As a developing country, we are sure to gain valuable insights and support from Japan, especially in the field of ICT,” said DICT Secretary Ivan John Uy in a press statement issued on Wednesday, Feb. 15.
The Philippines and Japan will venture into a “stronger” partnership within a five-year period. With this, DICT and MIC are both expected to “cooperate in the improvement of broadband infrastructure and service provision in the Philippines; diversification of 5G supplier and development of open, secure and resilient 5G network; the development of capacity-building programs for cybersecurity” among others.
Earlier this year, the department also disclosed its plans of pursuing digital cooperation with China, Singapore, Denmark and Belgium.
