Barangay councilor in Negros town shot dead

BACOLOD CITY -- A barangay official was shot dead by unidentified assailants in Bangga Pepe, Barangay San Jose, E.B. Magalona, Negros Occidental on Wednesday, Feb. 15.

The victim was identified as Ian Negrido, 41, councilor in Barangay 18-A, Victorias City.

Lt. Minardo Ellaga, deputy police chief of E.B. Magalona Municipal Police Station, said the victim, who was on board his motorcycle on his way home, was believed to be tailed by the perpetrators.

Ellaga said the victim who sustained seven gunshot wounds was declared dead on arrival at a hospital.

Ellaga said there were no witnesses as the area where the crime occurred was not well-lighted and far from the houses.

Policemen have yet to establish the motive, but they are looking into work-related as one of the possible angles, since the victim also served as safety officer in a private building here.
