The Valenzuela City government facilitated an extensive hands-only cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) training at the Allied Local Emergency Response Teams (ALERT) Multi-purpose Hall in the city on Tuesday, Feb. 14.
Around 1,100 barangay rescue volunteers, private company employees, staff from private and public schools, uniformed personnel from the Philippine National Police (PNP)-Valenzuela, and the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) participated in the activity.
The city government said the training aims to provide basic knowledge on rescue and providing first aid.
It is also one of the initiatives of the local government to equip and prepare their employees for disasters.
The local government added that the Valenzuela City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (VCDRRMO) held a coordination meeting with the Technical Working Group (TWG) for disaster rescue, which consists of Barangay volunteer rescuers, public and private teachers, doctors, and several city government departments, last Jan. 31 in preparation for the training.
The CPR training is pursuant to Republic Act (RA) 10871 or the “Basic Life Support Training in Schools Act.”
CPR is a lifesaving technique used when a person’s breathing or heartbeat has stopped such (such as near drowning or heart attack incidents), according to the Department of Health.
The training this year is the fourth citywide CPR training in Valenzuela since its initiation in 2017.
The activity is part of Valenzuela City’s 25th Charter Day celebration.
The local government said Valenzuela was converted from a municipality into a city on Feb. 14, 1998, after former President Fidel V. Ramos signed RA 8526, making it the 12th city in Metro Manila and 83rd in the country.
